Hey all, it’s me again. It’s been a while since you’ve gotten a newsletter from me, and that may have got you wondering about what was going on. Newsletters were going out daily for a while, but it’s time to get serious and have a talk about what’s happening.
Why haven't there been any recent “Three Big Questions" posts?
In all honesty, I bit off more than I could chew. In theory, writing a preview of each FBS team is great. The articles aren't too long, but still in depth enough to properly cover each team.
One problem, though: burnout. Writing daily, including weekends, was tough. The research that went into each newsletter took a couple of hours for the most part. Actually writing the article took another 45 minutes to one hour. With a family and two jobs currently with wildly varying hours, that wasn't sustainable.
Unfortunately, Cincinnati is going to be the last entry for the “Three Big Questions” series. That's a project for a team of writers, not just one guy. Maybe further down the line that’s something we can revisit, but it’s not plausible now.
So no more team previews?
Not in their current state. Instead, we're going to go on a much more sustainable pace of one conference preview (including independent) each week. Now, you might be saying there's 14 weeks until the season starts and only 12 (again, including independents as one conference) conferences?
Well, you'd be right. Conference previews will start this week, but the two weeks before the season will be reserves for some special articles to prepare for the return of America's best sport.
There's only going to be one newsletter a week?!
Not so fast, my friend.
I want to get back into writing the newsletters that led me to create this website. So, expect an additional newsletter about some topical thing going on around college football.
I'm going to get back to basics. Well, maybe not basics per se, but you get the point. College football is an incredibly intricate sport, and there’s always tons of moving parts that are begging to be talked about. I think you'll enjoy some of this new content, and ill be able to write at a much more sustainable pace.
Is there going to be a regular posting schedule?
Great question, but I'm not ready to commit to that. I'd say you can expect 2-3 newsletter to hit your inbox during each work week. i won't be posting on weekend anymore. I do need some free time, after all.
One of those newsletters will be a conference preview. One will be in the same vein as the newsletters you read prior to the “three Big Questions" series. And another may be a new series that I haven’t talked about yet.
Other housekeeping
Since I won't be active writing as much before, I'm going to put more into social media. You can follow me on Twitter at griffinolah12 or on the new Substack notes.
Plus, there might be some new forms of content at different places in the works.
This has been a fun ride already, and with this small content tweak, I think this newsletter will continue to grow. I hope you all stay along for the ride, and if you like the content, feel free to share to your friends, coworkers, rival fans, or local Dr. Pepper vendors.
