Hello everyone and Happy New Year!
I know I’m late on that, but, in case you haven’t noticed, SID Sports has been down essentially since the New Year. But no more. I have conquered the technical difficulties and issues that I myself created and here we are. Back and better than ever.
You also may notice that SID Sports is a little different than last time you were here. That’s on purpose. It is, after all, a new year and a new era.
As always, let’s break it down!
Where am I?
This isn’t SID Sports, is it? After all, you’re not at sidsports.substack.com.
That’s right, eagle eyed bold header guy! You’re not. Welcome to the new era: sid-sports.com!
Now, let me get off my product launch voice and back into the real world.
So, yeah. I changed the domain. That’s what broke the site, in case you’re wondering. 10/10 would recommend understanding all the instructions before attempting to do anything. Also would recommend some improvements for the process, but that’s a story for another day.
I’ve seen a lot of stuff about how Substack subdomains are getting throttled on sites like Twitter (I won’t be there) and even Facebook (I am semi-active there. Drop a follow here), so let’s give it a try and see. I also use Bluesky a lot and, with their url-based handles, getting a custom one seemed like the next step as we steadily and slowly walk towards legitimacy. Or, at least, the appearance of legitimacy.
If you’re an email person, I also have a new email. If you want to get in touch with pitches, information, ideas, collaborations or any business-related questions, shoot me an email at griffin@sid-sports.com.
Hey, is the navigation bar different?
Yet another astute observation from bold header guy.
Yes, the navigation bar is different. I’m trying out a new-to-me Substack feature called “Custom Pages” to create landing pages for certain topics/areas of the newsletter. I think it’ll make things better organized so hopefully you can find all your information in one click, rather than three or four like before.
Right now, you’ll see two of these Custom Pages. If you want to hop over to the UEC Bighorns Landing Page, you’ll see what I’m saying. Want to see all the videos on YouTube? There’s links. Just want to see the Game Notes? You’ve got it. A Substack directory of everything we’ve published so far? Sure thing.
The other is a new Rankings Hub, which holds all of my weekly rankings and Bracketology posts for posterity. It’s also got a massive banner graphic that will feature the most recent rankings I released and will be updated each and every week, so expect that to be a great reference while we’re in season.
We’ll see more of these with some of the other series I have planned, especially as we move into a more audio/visual space.
Wait, there’s more videos coming?
Yeah, I think so.
When planning my new series for this offseason, I realized the content would also lend itself well to video essays. So each series will get its own landing page.
These aren’t going to be gameplay videos or like what you see in the UEC Dynasty Series. I’m talking full YouTube style video essays.
Right now, my plan is to once again release a written and video component. They’ll work off the same information, just tweaked to come across better in their different mediums. Written content will publish here at sid-sports.com, while the video content will be housed on the SID Sports YouTube channel. The landing page will be a touch point for all of the content, including links to both written and visual content.
But what are those series? Well, since you made it this far, I might as well tease you on it. I’ll ask you two questions, one for each series. Let’s see if you can figure it out. (Tyler, no cheating. I know you know one of them).
What if…? And, Why?
I’ll leave you there. Welcome to the new era of SID Sports. I’m excited to expand this all with you and I hope you like the changes I made. If you have feedback like things you like, things you don’t or guesses on the upcoming series, drop some comments. Or hit me up on social, whatever you want.
Oh, and let’s do a chat tonight. It is a playoff semifinal after all.
