College Football 101

What is “sport management” anyway? Is there some kind of rigorous coaching pipeline from sport management majors to coaches? Sometimes, but not really.

At its core, the study of “sport management” you see at colleges and universities can be boiled down to business in the arena of sport. Sport, after all, is a business, from the various professional teams and college departments, through sports media, through software companies like DriveLine and Genius Sports, through eSports, sports betting, apparel and fitness companies. Even your local parks and recreation department likely has someone versed in sport management on staff.

Why, you may ask, am I going into this monologue about what sport management is? Well, I have a degree in it. I’m also going to tell you all about it here.

It’s time to open up your school books, because we’re learning how things work, instead of reacting to what is happening. Let’s pull back the shades and discuss the inner workings of sport management at the college levels.
